40 Days for Life comes to Glasgow

Posted on January 17, 2016 at 8:59 AM
40 Days for Life vigil in Little Rock, US

The 40 Days for Life initiative is coming to Glasgow!  Between 10th February and 20th March (during the season of Lent) pro-life advocates and supporters are invited to commit to a prayerful vigil outside the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where abortions are known to take place.

The vigil will be one of quiet, peaceful prayer, without graphic imagery and without any attempts to approach people, unless they approach us.

The initiative, which started in the United States in 2005, has helped a reported 10,000 women to choose life over abortion and has witnessed the closure of over 60 abortion centres.  It is now in operation across 25 countries worldwide, with Scotland being the latest addition to the ever increasing list.

This opportunity cannot be overstated.  It is a phenomenal opportunity for a public witness to the sanctity of all human life and a very real opportunity to change the hearts and minds of women seeking abortion.

Please spare an hour (or possibly more) between 10th February and 20th March to join us in this beautiful witness to life.  You can commit to a slot by clicking the image, below:

I just wanted to contact someone to say how shocked I was at your "vigil" outside the Queen Elizabeth hospital Glasgow.
I drove past there today after an appointment. However 2 years ago I drove past that exact spot after coming out of that hospital after losing two babies. That was one of the most horrific moments of my life and totally out of my hands.
If I had came out of there today having just gone through that I would have been even more distressed and upset. The clinic is not there for just abortions. It deals with all maternity issues and no matter what they are going through women should be respected and not given more pain.
I would not have known what your "vigil"'was about if you were not holding large posters. I would suggest if you wish to carry on your Vigil you lose the posters and have some respect for all patients and what they are going through.

Firstly Jacqueline, I’m so sorry for what you have gone through. It’s not something I have ever experienced and I can’t imagine the pain you have suffered.

I also appreciate the difficulties some people will experience in seeing the Vigil for Life banners, especially if they have just left the hospital having lost a child. Seeing things like ‘All Life is Precious’ would undoubtedly be upsetting for someone in that situation. But please note, at the 40 Days for Life, these are the only banners that are used. They don’t have any images. So if you did see any imagery it was not a 40 Days for Life vigil but something else.

That said, even the banners used by 40 Days for Life are essential because it lets people know why they are holding the vigil. One of the principal reasons for the vigil is to raise awareness of abortion, as well as hoping that anyone considering abortion will change their mind. But this is always done in a peaceful, prayerful manner. If it is not, then the individual(s) concerned have overstepped the mark.

I have taken part in the vigil Jacqueline and I can assure you that the other people I know who have taken part are very gentle and compassionate individuals who genuinely have concern for both mother and child. They really do not want to upset anyone. I think the difficulty with these vigils is that by being held outside of hospitals you do run the risk of upsetting people who are there for reasons other than abortion but which relate to an unborn child.

I am genuinely sorry for the pain you have suffered and also for having to suffer more when you left the hospital.
