UK Lagging Behind in EU Petition for Life

Posted on July 10, 2013 at 7:35 AM

Anyone with an interest in our website will know we have been encouraging people to sign the EU 'One of Us' petition which seeks to protect life from conception.

As EU citizens we now have the right, under the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) to directly submit a legislative proposal to the European Commission, provided we have the support of at least 1 million people across the union, coming from a minimum of at least seven member states.

At present, the total number of signatures is an impressive 729,796 so the campaign is progressing well but there is still a bit to go before the deadline of 1st November 2013.

Each country has been set a target and some are outperforming others.  For example, Austria, Spain, France, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland and Slovakia have all reached their target and are still collecting thousands of signatures!

Sadly, some countries, including the UK, are well short of their target.  The UK, which the campaign is hoping will achieve a target of 54,750 signatures, currently has 7,157.  There is, therefore, much work to be done in Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland to keep up with our pro-life brothers and sisters in mainland Europe!

Please, please spare a couple of minutes to click the link, below, and go to the One of Us campaign website and sign up for life.  This really does have the potential to be the greatest modern day victory for life!
